Storage, stuff, clutter, memories, if you have ADHD then these may be familiar terms to you and possibly you are on a continual hunt for the best ways to tackle it all, let me introduce my new fav, the modular storage wall!
My current project, our ADHD closet redesign that I am completing as part of the annual One Room Challenge, suffered from too much stuff and not enough workable storage! The ORC is an 8 week challenge that anyone can participate in with the goal of finishing one space in our homes. Please be sure to hop over and check out the many amazing projects that are in the works for this year - I promise it will not disappoint. In the past few years I have tackled our kitchen, patio, vestibule and our boys shared bedroom.
When I started designing our main closet I knew one of the things I really wanted to incorporate was a storage solution for all of my accessories. What I didn’t have was any extra closet floor space but I did have tons of wall space! I didn’t want to be locked into one storage design and eventually settled on the idea of a giant peg board that I could customise season by season or as needed. I loved the idea that I would be able to see all of my accessories at one time (eliminating the potential ADHD pitfall of unseen equals unknown).
When it comes to organizing I’m a big fan of simplifying (sort of like decluttering but a bit more specific), making things easy to put away and use but also making it all beautiful! We ADHDers are always on the hunt for dopamine and I firmly believe that by surrounding ourselves with colours and patterns that we love our homes can support this.
On the hunt for visual dopamine I fell in love with this fabulous Scalamandre wallpaper from Wallpops and I then hit a snag! If I put up the peg board on the main wall then I would cover most of the wallpaper, did I then also paper the peg board? How would that work functionally if I was moving the pegs in and out? Would I end up destroying the paper??? What to do?
Well in a flash of inspiration I thought of one of my favourite materials, lucite! What if I made the pegboard entirely clear? Ooooh the ideas came thick and fast and after a little research I had it all figured out. I initially planned to DIY the whole thing but first reached out to a local plexi supplier to see how much it would be if I designed the main board but they fabricated it. I ended up going with that option and I have now received it and installed it! I am waiting on my shelves and am in the process of DIYing all my pegs and other pieces!
She should be all done by next week so be sure to pop back to see how it all works out!!!
